Elementor: An Intuitive Website Builder
Elementor is a tool that revolutionizes the website creation process in WordPress by simplifying it. While WordPress itself provides the basic framework for building a website, detailed design or feature implementation might require programming knowledge. Elementor visualizes this process, enabling beginners to easily achieve their desired designs. With its drag-and-drop interface, you can place and style various elements like text, images, and buttons. Although it’s a plugin, sometimes it may not work as expected or have parts that are difficult to implement. In such cases, you might need additional learning or implement it directly without plugins. However, Elementor alone is sufficient for most common website creation needs.
I subscribe to and use the Elementor Pro version, but this is not mandatory. I recommend getting familiar with Elementor first and then considering a purchase if you feel additional features are needed.
Differences Between Elementor and the Default WordPress Editor
When editing pages or posts in WordPress, the default editor screen appears. This screen can feel somewhat unfamiliar and difficult for users accustomed to general blog editing experiences, such as with Naver Blog. I also felt lost about how to proceed with just the default editor after installing WordPress.
After installing Elementor, the ‘Edit with Elementor’ button becomes active at the top of the WordPress editing screen. Clicking this button will take you to the Elementor editor. (After installing Elementor, you’ll need to set permissions to allow editing that category with Elementor, which will be explained later.)
The Elementor editor might seem a bit complex to first-time users. The left sidebar lists various widgets, and dragging these widgets to the central editing area activates them. For example, if you drag the ‘Text Editor’ widget, you can input text and set its style (color, size, width, etc.). The ‘Navigator’ function on the right displays the order of the widgets currently being edited, which can be useful for layout management once you get used to it. In this way, you can combine various widgets to create your desired content or website design. Using Elementor allows you to utilize additional widgets unique to Elementor, beyond the default WordPress widgets, enabling more convenient work.
Crocoblock: Enhancing Design Through Widget Extensibility
Unlike Elementor, Crocoblock is a plugin that doesn’t change the editor itself but rather enables more diverse and complex designs and expressions through widget extensibility. All web design is fundamentally done through programming, but tools like WordPress simplify this. Crocoblock fulfills this role effectively, gathering and providing a wide range of widgets that users typically want to implement. For instance, instead of installing multiple plugins individually for specific functionalities, Crocoblock offers the required features as a single package, making installation and integration easier. While many other plugins exist, I started my WordPress design journey with Crocoblock and have been satisfied with its use.
Installing Crocoblock, similar to Elementor, creates a variety of additional widgets. These widgets can be used to enrich your website’s design and functionality.
