I&#8217;d like to share my experience visiting Gyeongbok Palace, where the Eulsa Treaty was signed, and Jeongdongjin Observatory, offering a view of the beautiful <a href=\"https:\/\/linksboo.blog\/en\/travel-destination\/south-korea\/seoul-special-city\/seoul\/\">Seoul<\/a> landscape.<\/p>\n<h2>Gyeongbok Palace Jung District: Visiting the Site of History<\/h2>\n<p>Deoksugung Palace is a place rich in sights and attractions compared to other palaces. Often, you&#8217;ll find palaces or old landmarks near where police officers are stationed. I followed the signs from the alley next to National Jeongdong Theater towards Deoksugung Palace Gyeongbok Palace.<\/p>\n<figure>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/linksboo.blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/linkboo_12620_1_90025EF25BC25BF2025110225EF25BC25BF140417.jpg\" alt=\"\"><br \/>\n<\/figure>\n<p>2025.11.2 (Sun)<\/p>\n<p>Deoksugung Palace Annex<\/p>\n<p><b>Gyeongbok Palace<\/b><\/p>\n<figure>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/linksboo.blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/linkboo_12620_2_90025EF25BC25BF2025110225EF25BC25BF142133.jpg\" alt=\"\"><br \/>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Police and signs in the alley next to National Jeongdong Theater guided the way to Gyeongbok Palace.<\/p>\n<p>There was a wide open space and a lawn area at the entrance, and it was quite a walk to the Gyeongbok Palace building.<\/p>\n<figure>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/linksboo.blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/linkboo_12620_3_90025EF25BC25BF2025110225EF25BC25BF140404.jpg\" alt=\"\"><br \/>\n<\/figure>\n<p><b>Gyeongbok Palace<\/b><\/p>\n<figure>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/linksboo.blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/linkboo_12620_4_90025EF25BC25BF2025110225EF25BC25BF140442.jpg\" alt=\"\"><br \/>\n<\/figure>\n<figure>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/linksboo.blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/linkboo_12620_5_90025EF25BC25BF2025110225EF25BC25BF140425.jpg\" alt=\"\"><br \/>\n<\/figure>\n<p><b>Gyeongbok Palace is a Western-style building belonging to Deoksugung Palace, and it is a historic site where the Eulsa Treaty was signed in 1905.<\/b> It covers an area of 727 pyeong (approximately 2,400 square meters) with a building size of 236 pyeong (approximately 780 square meters) and is separated from the main palace of Deoksugung Palace by a stone wall.<\/p>\n<figure>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/linksboo.blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/linkboo_12620_6_90025EF25BC25BF2025110225EF25BC25BF140508.jpg\" alt=\"\"><br \/>\n<\/figure>\n<figure>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/linksboo.blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/linkboo_12620_7_image396531278534797495290025E725AB258A25EF25BF25BD2025110225E725AB258A25EF25BF25BD140513.jpg\" alt=\"\"><br \/>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Below the stairs is a well, believed to have been used by King Gojong from 1904 to 1907.<\/p>\n<figure>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/linksboo.blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/linkboo_12620_8_90025EF25BC25BF2025110225EF25BC25BF140529.jpg\" alt=\"\"><br \/>\n<\/figure>\n<p><b>&#8216;\uc911\uba85(\u91cd\u7700)&#8217; derives its name from the &#8216;Yi&#8217; (\u96e2) trigram in the &#8216;Book of Changes&#8217; (\uc8fc\uc5ed), meaning &#8216;brightness continues without end&#8217; or &#8216;repeatedly bright.&#8217;<\/b> The current plaque was restored in August 2010. (Information source: Namu Wiki)<\/p>\n<p>After changing into slippers at the entrance, I entered the building.<\/p>\n<figure>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/linksboo.blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/linkboo_12620_9_1762307832541.jpg\" alt=\"\"><br \/>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Slippers were essential due to the smooth and shiny floor.<\/p>\n<h3>Exhibition Hall 1: History of Deoksugung Palace and Jungmyeongjeon<\/h3>\n<figure>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/linksboo.blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/linkboo_12620_10_90025EF25BC25BF2025110225EF25BC25BF140612.jpg\" alt=\"\"><br \/>\n<\/figure>\n<figure>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/linksboo.blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/linkboo_12620_11_90025EF25BC25BF2025110225EF25BC25BF141424.jpg\" alt=\"\"><br \/>\n<\/figure>\n<p><b>Exhibition Hall 1 visually displays the changes in the Gyeongbok Palace and Deoksugung Palace areas from the opening of the ports to the present day by projecting videos onto a model that scales down Deoksugung Palace and the Jung District area.<\/b><\/p>\n<figure>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/linksboo.blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/linkboo_12620_12_90025EF25BC25BF2025110225EF25BC25BF141430.jpg\" alt=\"\"><br \/>\n<\/figure>\n<figure>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/linksboo.blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/linkboo_12620_13_90025EF25BC25BF2025110225EF25BC25BF141440.jpg\" alt=\"\"><br \/>\n<\/figure>\n<p><b>Gyeongbok Palace (formerly Suokheon)<\/b> was used as a library after its completion, serving as a place to store the imperial family&#8217;s books and treasures. It was also used to host important foreign dignitaries, such as the reception of Prince Albert Wilhelm Heinrich of Germany.<\/p>\n<figure>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/linksboo.blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/linkboo_12620_14_90025EF25BC25BF2025110225EF25BC25BF141446.jpg\" alt=\"\"><br \/>\n<\/figure>\n<p>After a fire in 1901, it was rebuilt under the design supervision of Russian architect Afanasy Ivanovich Seredin-Sabatin, changing into its current two-story brick building form.<\/p>\n<figure>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/linksboo.blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/linkboo_12620_15_90025EF25BC25BF2025110225EF25BC25BF141453.jpg\" alt=\"\"><br \/>\n<\/figure>\n<figure>\n<img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\"><br \/>\n<\/figure>\n<p><b>Exhibition Hall 2 recreates the scene of the Eulsa Treaty signing using hyper-realistic human models dressed in historically accurate attire, allowing visitors to vividly experience the event.<\/b> However, a historical inaccuracy was pointed out in Lee Geun-taek&#8217;s attire, where the collar of his official robe should have had three stars, not two.<\/p>\n<figure>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/linksboo.blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/linkboo_12620_19_90025EF25BC25BF2025110225EF25BC25BF140638.jpg\" alt=\"\"><br \/>\n<\/figure>\n<figure>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/linksboo.blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/linkboo_12620_20_90025EF25BC25BF2025110225EF25BC25BF140646.jpg\" alt=\"\"><br \/>\n<\/figure>\n<p><b>The Eulsa Treaty document (reproduction)<\/b> was drafted on November 17, 1905, and is housed at the Kyujanggak Institute for Korean Studies at <a href=\"https:\/\/linksboo.blog\/en\/travel-destination\/south-korea\/seoul-special-city\/seoul\/\">Seoul<\/a> University.<\/p>\n<figure>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/linksboo.blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/linkboo_12620_21_90025EF25BC25BF2025110225EF25BC25BF140707.jpg\" alt=\"\"><br \/>\n<\/figure>\n<figure>\n<img decoding=\"async\" supported the treaty, the saying &#8216;physiognomy is science&#8217; came to mind.<\/p>\n<figure>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/linksboo.blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/linkboo_12620_23_1762310283685.jpg\" alt=\"\"><br \/>\n<\/figure>\n<p>We could also see the figure of Min Young-gi, who opposed the Manhuidang was used as the Emperor&#8217;s sleeping quarters.<\/p>\n<figure>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/linksboo.blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/linkboo_12620_46_90025EF25BC25BF2025110225EF25BC25BF141806.jpg\" alt=\"\"><br \/>\n<\/figure>\n<p><b>Manhuidang, used as the Emperor&#8217;s sleeping quarters<\/b><\/p>\n<figure>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/linksboo.blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/linkboo_12620_47_90025EF25BC25BF1762309084701.jpg\" alt=\"\"><br \/>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Excavation results suggest that the Manhuidang site was largely destroyed due to a swimming pool and associated facilities created when it was used as a foreign club. However, a section believed to be the Manhuidang site, measuring 6 kan east-west and 4 kan north-south, was confirmed south and west of the swimming pool, offering a glimpse of its former state.<\/p>\n<figure>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/linksboo.blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/linkboo_12620_48_1762308390176.jpg\" alt=\"\"><br \/>\n<\/figure>\n<p>The two ginkgo trees at the entrance of Gyeongbok Palace were impressive. As I left Gyeongbok Palace, Dosan Ahn Changho&#8217;s words, &#8220;&#8221;\ub098\ub77c\uc758 \uc8fc\uc778\uc740 \uad6d\ubbfc\uc774\ub2e4. \uad6d\ubbfc\uc774 \ubc14\ub85c\uc11c\uc57c \ub098\ub77c\uac00 \ubc14\ub85c \uc120\ub2e4.&#8221;&#8221;, came to mind. I resolved that we must become discerning and awakened citizens so that our country is never lost again.<\/p>\n<h2>Jeongdong Observatory: A Panoramic View of <a href=\"https:\/\/linksboo.blog\/en\/travel-destination\/south-korea\/seoul-special-city\/seoul\/\">Seoul<\/a><\/h2>\n<p>Located a <b>3-minute walk away<\/b>, <b>Jeongdongjin Observatory<\/b> is on the 13th floor of the Seosomun Building of the <a href=\"https:\/\/linksboo.blog\/en\/travel-destination\/south-korea\/seoul-special-city\/seoul\/\">Seoul<\/a> City Hall. I had thought it would be on a hill, but it was close to City Hall Station.<\/p>\n<figure>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/linksboo.blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/linkboo_12620_49_90025EF25BC25BF2025110225EF25BC25BF142647.jpg\" alt=\"\">\n<\/p>\n<p><b>Jeongdongjin Observatory<\/b><\/p>\n<p>15 Deoksugung-gil, Jung-gu, Seoul Special City<\/p>\n<p>This is a famous spot where you can enjoy the beautiful scenery of Seoul at a glance, offering a view of the landscape where historic and modern buildings blend together. The panoramic view of Gyeongbok Palace, Deoksugung Palace, and the area around Seoul Station is particularly impressive.
