On May 2, 2025, I visited Domohyeon, a new attraction in Busan. This place, formerly the official residence of the Busan mayor, embodies the meaning of its name, Domohyeon, as a citizen space for relaxation, meeting, and freely fostering fresh ideas. It holds even deeper significance as the name was finally selected reflecting the opinions of Busan citizens.

Unfortunately, there was no on-site parking at Domohyeon, but the experience of parking in a nearby private lot and walking up the uphill path was also special. As I walked along the long wall, the charm of Domohyeon gradually began to reveal itself.
Domohyeon Operation Information and Opening Hours
Domohyeon opens at 10 AM and is closed every Monday and on public holidays. It is advisable to check the operating hours before visiting.

The uphill walking path starting from the entrance, combined with the beautiful garden, offers a magnificent landscape. The former official residence, a two-story building, holds historical value in itself.

The view of the lawn plaza from the building is somewhat modest but boasts an unobstructed vista. When it was built in 1984, there were no tall buildings nearby, so Domohyeon was called the ‘Provincial Blue House’ for its view of Gwangalli. It is even more interesting to know that it was also a filming location for the drama ‘Reborn Rich’.

Namcheon-dong The view of Gwangan Bridge and Namcheon-dong in the distance is breathtaking. To the right, there is also a resting area where you can relax under the shade of trees.

The charming small pond and the thick, ancient trees that look hundreds of years old seem to speak of Domohyeon’s long history.

Exploring the Interior Spaces of Domohyeon
1st Floor: Sosopung Lounge & Cafe MOMOS
The ‘Sosopung Lounge’ on the first floor is an open space where anyone can comfortably stay, view exhibitions, or read books and relax. Exhibitions and video screenings can also be enjoyed here.

Cafe MOMOS is a complex cultural space that promotes the culture of Busan, a coffee city, where you can enjoy high-quality specialty coffee, bakery items, and desserts. However, it may take some time for drinks to be served, so it’s best to visit with plenty of time.

While waiting for your coffee, it’s a good idea to explore and take photos of the building’s interior. Unfortunately, due to a call number error, the coffee was a bit cold, but I recalled the taste from the Yeongdo main branch and looked forward to my next visit.

After drinking coffee, I moved clockwise around the building to admire the interior in more detail. Entering through a side door that led to the backyard with its beautiful wall, I found various rooms like a maze.

1st Floor: Dahal (1-2F) & 1-Person Video Viewing
‘Dahal’ is a tiered lecture hall that captures the natural colors dyed with Korean trees. Its high ceiling and impressive space are utilized as a venue for world-renowned scholars and citizens to share wisdom. Additionally, a 1-person video viewing space called ‘Dahal’ is also available.

2nd Floor: Beonru, Chwiram, Duruk & Outdoor Terrace
On the second floor, there is a multi-purpose space called ‘Beonru’. Here, a video showcasing Domohyeon’s 40-year history is screened, and it is connected to an outdoor terrace, allowing for various events. The ‘Chwiram’ conference room is suitable for important meetings in a calm and elegant atmosphere, while the ‘Duruk’ meeting room is a good space for casual conversations or reading in a stable and cozy environment.

The 2nd-floor outdoor terrace offers a beautiful view of the lawn plaza. It’s also a great place to take a break and enjoy the leisurely atmosphere.

Beautiful Garden Stroll
Leaving the building and strolling through the northeast garden, I discovered another charm of Domohyeon. Even in early May, camellia flowers were still in bloom, along with lovely lily-of-the-valley and dazzling fringe trees, with various colorful flowers and trees adorning the garden throughout the seasons.

Maintaining such a beautiful garden must require significant effort and cost. Domohyeon, where you can enjoy tea time, relaxation, and walks while taking in the fantastic view overlooking Gwangan Bridge, will offer a special experience not only to travelers to Busan but also to citizens of Busan. I would also recommend it as a meeting place for friends.
