Hidden Gem Near Homeplus in West Suwon: A Review of Maeuri Geumgok Branch
Introducing Maeuri Geumgok Branch, a great place to visit when you crave spicy food. Maeuri Geumgok Branch, which I visited on a weekday evening to try their spicy braised short ribs, is a cozy restaurant with about 8 tables. After much deliberation, I chose the signature menu item, ‘Yangpuni Galbijjim’ (braised short ribs in a pot), and added glass noodles to the 3-person set.
Thanks to a friend who arrived early, the table was already set with side dishes. We were served pickled radish kimchi and bean sprouts, and the bean sprouts can be added to the braised short ribs.
Soon after, the side menu items, rice balls and steamed eggs, arrived. The rice balls, served with pickled radish and mayonnaise, were filling, and the moist, soft steamed eggs were absolutely perfect.
The Amazing Taste of the Main Dish, Yangpuni Galbijjim
Finally, the long-awaited main dish, Yangpuni Galbijjim, was served. Honestly, I haven’t had many satisfying experiences with spicy braised short ribs bought at restaurants, so I didn’t have high expectations. However, the aroma emanating from the galbijjim at Maeuri Geumgok Branch was extraordinary from the moment it was served. After tasting it, the meat was incredibly tender and fell off the bone easily, and the flavor was exquisite. The perfectly spicy taste made it easy to eat without feeling overwhelmed. However, it might be a bit challenging for those sensitive to spice.
I revisited later and also tried the fried rice, which was delicious. To be honest, it tasted even better than Hyohone Matjip Galbijjim near Haenggung-dong, which I enjoyed previously. I’m very happy to have discovered such a wonderful restaurant in my neighborhood.
