The Charm of Pies at Hogwadang

Seoul Forest On February 4, 2026, the day I visited near Seongsu-dong Seoul Forest, I got off at Ttukseom Station after finishing my key chain shopping at the Dongdaemun Market. Feeling hungry, Hogwadang appeared right in front of me, so I walked towards it.

Unlike the long waiting lines I remembered seeing on Instagram Reels, when I visited, only one team was waiting, so I was able to enter the store right away. This was a take-out specialty store.

There were three types of pies available on the display shelf inside the store, and freshly baked, warm apple pies were displayed separately on a stand.

A Diverse Lineup of Pies

At Hogwadang, you can find ‘Sweet Pumpkin Pie’ topped with soboro and ‘Taco Pie’ with tomatoes and cheese. In particular, the freshly baked ‘Apple Pie’ caught my eye with its mouth-watering visual.

Pies Perfect for Gifting

They were prepared to be packaged in beautiful boxes, making them perfect for gifts. I purchased a total of four pies: two apple pies, one sweet pumpkin pie, and one taco pie.

Enjoying Pies as Take-out

Three of the purchased pies were individually wrapped in plastic, and one pie to be eaten immediately was provided wrapped in parchment paper and warmed in the microwave.

I tasted a slice of pie while walking through the quiet Seoul Forest. The taco pie was crispy on the outside, but the cheese and tomato sauce felt a bit separated, though the taste was good. The freshly baked apple pie, from the first bite, I thought it was a taste that both men at home would love. The apples were cooked with a satisfying texture, and the moderate sweetness made it a flavor that anyone, young or old, would enjoy. I even bought another apple pie on my way to Seongsu Station after my walk.

Although Ttukseom Seoul Forest and Seongsu Station are only one stop apart, there was a noticeable difference in the number of tourists. Except for The Coffee and Ferment Cafe, other places had a quiet atmosphere. As the weather gets warmer, the situation might change with an increase in visitors to Seoul Forest, but if you like crispy pastry pies, I recommend visiting Hogwadang.
