Local Eateries in 춘천, Review of Chammi Dakgalbi

I’m back with a blog review after a long time. Despite my busy schedule, visits to 춘천 continue steadily. This time, after swimming and feeling tired, I visited Chammi Dakgalbi, recommended by a local resident. If you’re in 춘천, you have to have dakgalbi, right?

Exterior of Chammi Dakgalbi
The exterior of Chammi Dakgalbi already gives off a vibe of a great restaurant.

The cozy interior had about 7 tables, but the spaciousness of the tables prevented it from feeling cramped. We ordered 3 servings of the basic dakgalbi instead of the spicy version. (I want to try the spicy dakgalbi or chicken innards someday!)

I give points for the clean griddle that appeared after ordering. Also, it was impressive that they provided water that seemed to be barley tea or Hovenia dulcis tea, and plum tea to aid digestion, instead of plain water. We were perfectly prepared for a feast!

The basic side dishes included garlic, lettuce wraps, and refreshing dongchimi (radish kimchi). It was a simple but satisfying 구성, and thanks to the owner’s generous hospitality, we could refill the side dishes without hesitation.

As expected of a local eatery in 춘천, the taste at Chammi Dakgalbi was truly excellent. I was hungry, but wrapping it in lettuce made it so I couldn’t stop eating. Honestly, I think I ate the most among our group.

After eating our fill of dakgalbi, we couldn’t skip the fried rice. We ordered one cheese fried rice. Although I usually prefer basic fried rice over cheese, it was delicious after a long time. Since the sauce itself is tasty, it’s no wonder everything, from dakgalbi to fried rice, is delicious.

Specifically, I showed disappointment that there was no kimchi with the fried rice, so the owner brought us fresh kimchi. It looked like freshly made kimchi but wasn’t salty at all, with just the right amount of fermented seafood flavor, which was perfect for my taste. It was a real rice thief.

The accompanying fresh kimchi is a perfect match with the fried rice.

I highly recommend Chammi Dakgalbi to those looking for a genuine local dakgalbi restaurant in 춘천, not one commonly featured on Instagram or blogs.
