Baegya Dining Lounge: Recommended Izakaya for Company Dinners and Gatherings

Gyeonggi Province Seongnam Bundang-gu Located on the 2nd floor of the Bongwoo Building at 11-15 Seongnam-daero 331beon-gil, Baegya Dining Lounge was discovered while searching for a small venue for a company dinner. We were able to visit conveniently as same-day reservations were possible.

Atmosphere and Basic Service

When we visited around 6 PM, it was relatively quiet, and the spacious and clean interior was impressive. We especially wanted to give it high marks as a bar because the water provided as a basic service tasted good. As a basic side dish, we were served crab sticks with wasabi mayonnaise, which had an addictive flavor and was satisfying enough to curb our hunger, even prompting us to ask for a refill. However, it was a bit disappointing that the food took somewhat longer to arrive because there was only one staff member.

Diverse and Delicious Side Dishes

The dishes we ordered that day were as follows:

  • Steamed Clams: This was the menu choice for those who don’t eat many side dishes. It had plump clams generously portioned, offering a satisfying chew. The buttery and savory flavors combined perfectly as a drinking snack.
  • Chicken Neck Yu-rin-gi: This dish reminded us of the Yu-rin-gi at Yongyongseong. Since this was our first stop, we needed something substantial to fill our stomachs. It was so delicious that the expression “so damn tasty” would be fitting. The cabbage and onions underneath, soaked in the sauce, added a fantastic flavor.
  • Motsunabe: We ordered a soup dish because it’s essential when drinking. Motsunabe can sometimes be oily and greasy if not prepared well, but this one was quite good. Overall, we got the impression that all the dishes were delicious.

In addition, we were able to try what we assumed were complimentary dishes (a chicken wing dish) and a pollack roe dish. The chicken wings were characterized by a sweet and sour taste, and the accompanying onions were particularly delicious, leading us to request more. The pollack roe dish was served with the cucumber peel meticulously removed, adding a touch of luxury.

The Futomaki, which arrived last, was great because we could order half a roll, but we ordered a full roll. The taste was as excellent as we had expected. The Stir-fried Beef Brisket and Bean Sprouts, ordered last, was a common dish but served in generous portions, which was more than enough for four people to enjoy a variety of dishes.

Overall Review

Baegya Dining Lounge felt less like a sophisticated “dining lounge” and more like a decent izakaya where you can enjoy delicious food at reasonable prices. The prices for the side dishes weren’t high, the taste was at least average or better, and the portions were generous, making it excellent value for money. Although we visited for a company dinner, it’s also a place I’d recommend for a blind date. I particularly remember the Futomaki and intend to visit again.
