Starfield Samseong Station Visit Review

Last Sunday, I enjoyed lunch at Sotnaeum, a popular hot pot rice restaurant that my husband really wanted to visit, located at Starfield COEX Mall. This place is famous for its assorted seafood jang (preserved seafood) and abalone hot pot rice.

Although it opens at 10:30 AM, on-site waiting is mandatory, and it’s essential to check the break times. We had a slight inconvenience with parking, but it seemed that about 5 groups ahead of us could be seated within 15-20 minutes. Surprisingly, there were many foreign customers inside the restaurant.

The tables were somewhat close together. After looking at the menu, we initially considered ordering the seafood jang hot pot rice, but considering that the picture might differ from the actual dish, we ordered two options: boneless chicken neck hot pot rice and eggplant hot pot rice.

Detailed Menu Review

Chicken Neck Hot Pot Rice (15,000 KRW)

The chicken neck hot pot rice, which my husband recommended, is a rice-stealing dish made with chicken neck, a special cut of chicken, grilled over an open flame and finished with a special soy sauce. It looked spicy in the picture, but it was actually a soy sauce-based dish. The boneless chicken neck had an excellent chewy texture and was very delicious.

Eggplant Hot Pot Rice

When I first received the eggplant hot pot rice, I was a bit disappointed because the accompanying side dishes seemed very meager. I was particularly surprised by the carrots. Honestly, I didn’t touch most of the side dishes and focused on the hot pot rice itself. The hot pot rice came with a raw egg yolk, braised eggplant, and seasoned seaweed. The rice, cooked with domestic Shindongjin rice, was delicious, and the texture of the eggplant was also excellent. Due to my disappointment with the side dishes, I didn’t take many pictures, but after tasting the main hot pot rice, I couldn’t help but acknowledge why this is a popular hot pot rice restaurant. At the end of the meal, I poured the buckwheat tea, served in a white ceramic pot, over the rice, which felt like it cleaned my palate.

Samseong Station If you are visiting Starfield COEX Mall or Samseong Station, and you like hot pot rice, I recommend visiting Sotnaeum. I hope all my neighbors stay healthy!
