During my trip to Yeonggwang, Jeolla Province, I found a bakery gem near my accommodation called ‘그믐,날’. The name itself evoked a sense of charm and romance, which made me decide to visit.
그믐,날: Yeonggwang’s Hidden Bakery Gem
‘그믐,날’ is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays and operates from 8 AM to 5 PM. They meticulously prepare everything from dough to baking 100% by hand every day, adhering to a “produce and sell the same day” principle using premium Isigny Gourmand butter. They offer a variety of breads, including their signature salt bread.

On my first visit, which was after 2 PM, I was disappointed to find that most of the salt bread was already sold out. Many customers appeared to be locals, and the atmosphere was that of a cozy and friendly neighborhood bakery.

First Day’s Purchases: Garlic Bread and Soboro Salt Bread
The garlic bread I bought on the first day had a unique butterfly shape and was appealing with its chewy texture and subtle sweetness. The garlic flavor wasn’t overpowering, making it enjoyable without being too strong. They don’t make this bread every day.

The next morning, I reheated the soboro salt bread in an air fryer, and it was absolutely divine. The crispy soboro topping and the sweet sweet potato filling layered inside created a fantastic combination. My husband and I shared it, and we were both speechless with admiration.

Second Visit: Conquering the Salt Bread Lineup
Addicted to the taste of the salt bread, I returned the next day right at opening time, around 8:40 AM. The salt bread wasn’t ready yet, so I paid and arranged to be notified by text. I pre-ordered the soboro salt bread, red bean salt bread, and original salt bread.

When I received the text message around 11:40 AM and returned, I noticed the egg mayonnaise salt bread and decided to add it to my order. Perhaps due to the heavy rain, there were no other customers that day, allowing me to leisurely photograph the interior. The small shop and the charming decorations adorning the walls were impressive.

Touched by the Service and Kindness
When I laid out the breads purchased from my accommodation, I found an olive salt bread that I hadn’t ordered. When I inquired about it that afternoon, the owner explained it was a complimentary service. I was deeply moved by the owner’s warm gesture of including it without prior announcement.

The olive salt bread had a pleasant aroma and a satisfying chewy texture. The egg mayonnaise salt bread, which I had for lunch, was incredibly delicious with its moist scrambled eggs and perfect seasoning. The contrast between the soft top and slightly crisp bottom was simply outstanding. I highly recommend the egg mayonnaise salt bread from ‘그믐,날’.

The red bean salt bread was as delicious as the famous red bean salt bread from “Bangatgan,” a renowned bakery in Daejeon. My husband was also surprised by how excellent the red bean paste was. It was evident that they use high-quality ingredients generously for the fillings.

All four types of salt bread I tasted boasted unique charms and excellent flavors. I know I’ll be thinking about the salt bread from this place long after I’ve returned home. I highly recommend visiting if you love salt bread. I even encouraged my husband to visit often and not skip breakfast.

Until the Last Day, Three Visits
On the last day of my trip, I visited ‘그믐,날’ again on my way home. I had fallen so in love with their bread that I visited for three consecutive days. I had also heard good things about their sausage bread, so I bought a basil sausage bread for lunch. I hope all my readers stay healthy!
