Jeju Yeonjeong Sikdang: A Pork Restaurant Tour Featured on ‘Jeon Hyun-moo’s Plan 2’

On March 27, 2026, during a trip to Jeju, I visited Yeonjeong Sikdang, which was featured on ‘Jeon Hyun-moo’s Plan 2’. It’s located about a 10-minute walk from Shilla Stay Jeju, so I went there for dinner after checking into the hotel.

Yeonjeong Sikdang opens at 9:30 AM and is closed on the first and third Sundays of every month. We were able to enter without waiting, and the atmosphere of the old establishment, along with groups of customers enjoying company dinners, was impressive.

Menu Selection and Side Dishes

We ordered 2 servings of gabrisal (pork neck). I usually don’t eat much dinner at home, but when traveling, I tend to let my husband have 1.5 servings and I eat only 0.5. However, today was different.

The side dishes included pickled perilla leaves with a unique flavor, a plain scallion salad that was almost not salty, and a spicy yet mildly salty cucumber salad. While the side dishes were generally light, they harmonized well with the meat.

Although I was looking forward to the chives kimchi that Jeon Hyun-moo ate so deliciously on the broadcast, the initial presentation looked too fermented, so I didn’t touch it. However, thanks to the staff’s thoughtfulness, I was able to exchange it for a fresh, cool, fermented chive kimchi and enjoy it.

Attentive Service from Staff and the Charm of Meljeot

The gabrisal at Yeonjeong Sikdang was cut thickly, reportedly by the owner’s son. The staff personally grilled the meat, and I was touched by their attentiveness when they noticed I wasn’t eating the chives kimchi and immediately exchanged it for a fresh one.

As the meat was cooking, the staff added chili peppers to the meljeot (fermented anchovy sauce) and heated it on the grill. This meljeot tasted similar to my soul food, dried anchovy stew, making me momentarily forget about dieting and dive into a serious eating spree. The service of refilling side dishes before we even noticed they were low was also excellent.

Additional Order and the Surprise of Cheonggukjang

The white meat (pork jowl) featured on the broadcast was a bit pricey, so I didn’t order it and instead added another 2 servings of gabrisal. I also ended up ordering the cheonggukjang (fermented soybean paste stew) that the staff recommended, even though I had already eaten it for lunch; I ordered it as if I were under a spell.

I received a tip to add a spoonful of meljeot when mixing the cheonggukjang with rice. The meljeot seemed to be the secret ingredient; adding chili peppers would make it even spicier. I preferred dipping the meat in meljeot, while my husband made wraps with perilla leaves, scallion salad, and chives kimchi.

After eating non-stop, I was completely full. Ordering 3 servings of meat and cheonggukjang for two people was just the right amount to enjoy deliciously without being excessive. Pork is a must-eat menu item when traveling to Jeju, and the gabrisal at Yeonjeong Sikdang was a new experience.
