Gyeongju Food Exploration: The Special Muljjolmyeon of Park Yongja Myeongdong Jjolmyeon Main Branch

After a healing time in Gyeongju, we headed to Gyeongju for lunch. We originally planned to visit [Park Shinwoo Noodle Workshop], which operates on a 100% reservation basis, but unfortunately, we had to turn back as we didn’t have a reservation. As it was raining, my husband suggested a great muljjolmyeon place nearby, so we immediately headed to [Park Yongja Gyeongju Myeongdong Jjolmyeon Main Branch].

This place has been featured on various TV programs such as ‘The Master of Life’ and ‘Baek Jong-won’s Top 3 Restaurants’, and it’s a local favorite frequented by residents. Many locals were seen in comfortable attire, wearing slippers, giving it a relaxed, neighborhood vibe. Upon arriving at the restaurant, we had to write our names on the waiting list and wait for our turn to be called. Although they open at 11:20 AM, the continuous rain forced us to wait under the eaves for over an hour.

Broadcast Appearances and Awards

Park Yongja Myeongdong Jjolmyeon Main Branch has not only appeared on broadcasts but was also selected for the ‘Blue Ribbon Survey’, and we could see traces of many celebrities visiting. These factors seemed to further enhance the restaurant’s reputation. The interior exuded a warm and friendly atmosphere, typical of a local eatery, and we particularly noticed many families with children among the customers.

Various Jjolmyeon Menus and Taste Evaluation

After a long wait, we were finally seated and looked over the menu. Initially, we considered ordering the Yubu Jjolmyeon or Odeng Jjolmyeon, which are broth-based, but since my husband wanted to try the Bibim Jjolmyeon, we ordered both. Shortly after ordering, we were served refreshing broth and pickled radishes. The broth was deep and savory, whetting our appetites.

The Bibim Jjolmyeon, which came out first, was generously topped with mugwort and shredded cucumber. It wasn’t spicy, and the seasoning was excellent. The Yubu Jjolmyeon that followed was served in a large portion, with plenty of fried tofu, egg, and mugwort, harmonizing perfectly with the broth. The jjolmyeon noodles were softer than typical chewy jjolmyeon, making them easy to eat and feel light on the stomach. The broth, in particular, was so delicious that it amazed us.

While we were eating, the elderly owner respectfully served the jjolmyeon with both hands, which conveyed a sense of care. The friendly service from the staff was also impressive. It was a taste that naturally came to mind on a rainy day. It made me want to try making a similar Yubu Jjolmyeon at home.
