Neungdong Minari Restaurant Review: Minari Gomtang and Yukhoe Bibimbap Recommended

Seongsu-dong On a day with intermittent rain, we visited Neungdong Minari during our outing in Seoul’s Seongsu-dong. Despite arriving around 3:30 PM, there were about 4 teams waiting ahead of us, but we were able to get in after about a 10-minute wait. This place was featured on ‘줄서는식당 2’ (Restaurant Queue 2) and is popular with tourists from overseas, including China and Japan.

Neungdong Minari, renovated from an old house, has a hall located inside past the first-floor kitchen. We were guided to the second floor, where a cozy space with a few tables awaited us after climbing a narrow staircase. The retro atmosphere was impressive, and despite being an old building, it felt neatly organized. We also found traces of visits from many celebrities.

Menu Selection: Minari Gomtang and Yukhoe Bibimbap

My husband ordered the Minari Gomtang, and I ordered the Yukhoe Bibimbap. Neungdong Minari uses ‘Hanjae Minari,’ cultivated with clean underground water from Hwaak Mountain in Cheongdo. The basic side dishes included seasoned fresh minari and spicy pickled vegetables, which were tender and delicious. We enjoyed them with the minari.

Minari Gomtang: Refreshing and Fresh Broth Taste

The Minari Gomtang was mostly filled with finely chopped minari stems, which had a texture similar to green onions and a fresh, aromatic scent. The included Korean beef++ meat was also tender and delicious. We added somyeon noodles, and the generous portion was satisfying. The broth tasted more refreshing than regular gomtang, and my husband was so pleased that he even bought a special gomtang to take home.

Yukhoe Bibimbap: Surprisingly Amazing Taste

At first, I was skeptical about Yukhoe Bibimbap, but I ordered it because of its reputation. It was a simple combination of minari leaves, lettuce, pickled onions, yukhoe (beef tartare), fluffy rice, and a secret soy sauce dressing. However, the moment I took a bite, I was astonished. The subtle sweet and sour taste combined with the perilla oil aroma created an unexpected harmony between the yukhoe and minari. I highly recommend it as the best combination I’ve tasted in my 50 years of life.

The Yukhoe Bibimbap is served with ‘Beef Radish Soup,’ which tastes similar to the soup served during Korean holidays. If you are planning an outing in Seongsu-dong, we highly recommend visiting Neungdong Minari. Stay healthy, everyone!
